How to Stop Draining your Laptop Battery
By 2besure
This article will tell you how to extend the life of your laptop battery. The laptop is one of the most important changes since the creation of the computer. No longer do you have to be chained behind a desk, but computer owners are not free to take there laptop anywhere they want because the laptop also runs on batteries.
It can be a problem, when your laptop battery no longer holds a charge, because now you have to shell out about $100 for a replacement battery.
You can buy a knock off but, I myself like to stick with the brand of my computer. The good news is that there are some things you can do to extend the life of your laptop battery four fold.
One thing you can do to help your laptop battery last longer, is to remove the battery when you are in stationary place like the office or home and use the laptop ac adapter.
When you have the batter
in your computer, it is still drawing energy from the batter. Eventually, this will shorten the live of
your laptop battery. Always store your battery in a cool dry lace when not in use.
What's Running in the Background?
The best way to shorten the life of your laptop battery is to keep too many programs open. Too many programs running in the background will drain your batter and make your computer and the battery work harder.
Make sure to shut down everything that you’re not using when using your battery. If you use your laptop for business or sales; you don’t want to be at a client’s house in the middle of a presentation when your battery dies.
How to Shut Down Background Programs
Too many programs running in the background will cause you computer to run slowly. It is a simple process to shut them down and speed up your computer.
You can also shut down programs working in the back ground, by going into start, run, type in ‘msconfig’ and hit OK.
Go into start up and un-check everything that you are not using that has been running in the background.
Laptop batteries work harder, when you have all your programs open at the same time. If you have ten open programs and are only using two, you might as well be throwing cash out the window.
Close down any programs you are not using to save battery usage. These steps should help a great deal.
Removable Media
People often leave a CD or DVD in the drive after use. Remove all CD's and DVD's that are not being used at the time.
They do not take up a lot of energy, but occasionally they will spin, slowing up your computer and being a drain on your laptop battery.
Adjust the Screen Brightness
Each laptop has a different way to adjust the contrast or screen brightness. However, it is important to lower the brightness to avoid draining your battery. Cell phones work the same way. The brighter the screen the lower the lives of the battery charge. For me dimming my screen makes it a little hard to see the screen. Use a lamp for the extra light.
Power Saving Mode
Another way to help extend the life of your batter is to adjust how your battery is beng used. You can do this by going into power options and pick power saving mode. You can access this from your power icon on your desk front or from the control panel.
Other Things that Help
Other tings that will help extend the life of your laptop battery are:
- Defrag your hard drive often to keep it running efficiently
- Use the hibernation feature t shut down your computer wen not in use.
- Use a cooling pad. Laptop run better at lower temperatures
- Place laptop on a hard surface, rather than your lap
- Limit the use of external devices, such as UBS, mouse and wi-fi
- Use battery to or three times a week.
Comments
Well, I have to bookmark this for reference. Thanks so much. When you are sitting here writing all day, nothing makes you feel like throwing the computer out the window more, than when it hangs and you got 9,000 things to do. I need to increase speed.
And thanks for reminding about the battery use - since I usually have my laptop plugged in I am not giving my battery a chance to drain and recharge. I keep forgetting to unplug it - so I just did. I want to take my laptop out next week to the library to use and I need the battery to operate and not drain in an hour.
Same thing with my cell phone - it stopped working when I was out. 10 minutes after leaving home, I lost power. Rather than crashing it through the window, (yes, these electronics can get to you), I let the battery drain - and it has been working fine. I have to remember to do that and not keep it plugged in all the time.
Like all electronics we have to know how to take care of them. Replacing them is just not in the budget.
Thanks a million - rated up for sure!
