Resolve Conflicts

Remember that old En Vogue song, Free Your Mind and the Rest will Follow? There is real truth to this statement!

Unresolved issues are distractions that will keep your from sleeping well. If you are having problems with a relationships,if possible, try to resolve them before your go to bed at night.

When conflicts are not dealt with during the day, the subconscious mind will try to resolve them at night when you should be sleeping. If possible don’t go to bed until you fix it. This means saying, I am sorry. These three words have been known to settle many a conflict.

Consider your Diet

Stimulants can cause you to have trouble sleeping at night.  Avoid the temptations to eat foods or drink beverages that will keep you awake a night.   Avoid these foods at least three hours before you go to bed at night:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Chocolates
  • Sugary snacks
  • Alcohol

Turn off the Computer

As a freelance writer, I work all day on the computer. It is important to have a set schedule, so you don't over do it.

I have experienced being so exhausted, that I was unable to sleep. My eyes and mind were on overload, because of long hours on the computer.

If you want to be able to wind down at night, turn off the computer an hour or two before you go to bed; so you can relax and eventually fall sleep.

Exercise

It sounds cliché, but daily exercise will help you sleep better at night.  Exercise help the body to release endorphins that give the body a sense of well being.

Exercise also help by, detoxifying the body, and causing you to feel more relaxed. Even a brisk walk after dinner will do the trick. Do not do vigorous exercise before bed, or you will get the opposite affect.

Television

Television is another thing that can keep you from sleeping well at night. When I was a kid, all the television networks ended, around 12 or 1 AM. Now we have hundreds of stations and the networks never shut down.

If the brain is over stimulated by TV, you may have a little trouble getting sleep. Turn of the television at least and hour before you go to sleep. The best way to assure a good night’s sleep is not to have a television in the bedroom at all.

White Noise

White noise has been know to help you sleep better. It causes the mind to concentration on the sound rather than excessive thought. Try keep a fan on low or using CD that recreate sounds of nature, waves or just soft instrumental music.

White Noise 24/7 offers free streaming audio of peaceful sounds to help you sleep at night.

Natural Sleep Aids

If you still have trouble sleep these this will also help you get to sleep:

  • A glass of warm milk
  • 1 gram of melatonin
  • Valerian Root
  • St. John's Wort

If you have never used these supplements, start by taking the smallest amounts to find what works best for you. More is not better and can keep you up rather then helping you sleep better.
