How to Extend the Life of your Adult Cat
69Our feline children bring such joy to our daily lives. Cat lovers everywhere will tell you how much their cats mean to them. If you are a cat lover, of course you want your cat to live a longer and healthy life.
The domestic cat lives from 12 to 15 years and some cats will live longer, depending on their breed and living environment. It is important to be proactive in their care, take them to the vet when necessary and help them by not allowing them to become obese.
There are some simple ways to ensure that your cat experiences better health and a longer life.
Helping your Cat Get the Best Out of Life
It is important to have your cats spayed or neutered. A male cat that is neutered, will have a happier life and live longer. It is not fair to allow your queen, to become pregnant over and over again, as each pregnancy is hard on her, and can take years off her life.
An unfixed tom, who is territorial and who loves to explore will, no doubt have his share of cat fights. These cats fights can cause sickness and transference of disease, such as rabies, feline leukemia, distemper and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), which is similar to human HIV.
Make sure your cat is getting to best diet possible. It is also important not to feed your cat table scraps which is unhealthy for them. Human food are filled with bad fat, too much salt and other things that can cause digestive problems and cause them to become obese.
An obese cat is subject to diabetes, heart problems and other diseases that can make them sick and ultimately shorten their lives.
