It is advise to watch what you eat and try to determine what foods that cause your acid reflux and limit or avoid them.
Foods that may cause heartburn:
- Tomatoes and tomato based foods, chocolates, citrus foods, spicy food, greasy foods, coffee, soda and energy drinks.
How to Eat
Overeating will put a strain on your stomach and likely increase the chances of acid reflux. Try to avoid eating large meals. Instead, eat several small meals throughout the day will help to avoid indigestion.
Avoid rushing through a meal. Slow down and take time to chew your food thoroughly, putting your fork down between bites. Wait about three hours before laying down after eating.

Your Sleeping Position
When you are experience acid indigestion, sleep with your head elevated about 8 inches. There are several pillows you can buy to help to keep you comfortable and elevated.
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, go to a sewing store and purchase a wedge of foam and have them cut it to suit you. When you sleep in an elevated position, it will help keep acids in the stomach rather than rising to the esophagus and throat.
