If Haiti is Cursed - So is America
74It is amazing how many Christians believe as Pat Robinson, of the 700 Club believes; that Haiti is cursed for the actions of their forefathers and this is the reason for a string of bad luck she has experience down through the years.
Haiti was the first post colonial, black lead nation, that won independence, from the French, by a slave revolt. My personal belief is, that is was probably a rumor spread through oral tradition; but very far from the truth.
If we would examine our own history, I believe we will find many things, that could cause God to turn away from us. The United States of America has not has a stellar reputation, in human rights, fairness, religion, honest government and many other areas. To those who believe that Haiti is cursed because of the sins of her forefathers, then I say to you, if Haiti is cursed, then so is America.

America is cursed and doesn't know it:
How often do you hear someone say, America is a blessed nation because we believe in God? The demons believe in God and tremble. It is not enough to believe in God, but to live, embody and to walk out His law and precepts.
I believe that America is so much more offensive to God because claim, "one nation under God," but they want to remove the 10 commandment and the name of God, from it's courts. Religious messages are preached, 24/7 on TV, Radio and Internet, and still we live as though there is no God to answer to.
Why should God be displeased with the United States:
- Our government is doing business with ungodly nations, now in bondage to China for billions
- We go to other nations and murder their innocent, in the name of democracy
- Our government allowed thousands to drown, because they were black and poor
- Legislators have passed laws, that allow the murders million of unborn children each year, in the name of the right to choose
- Our legislators have passed laws, that allows young girls to get abortions with their parents knowledge
- Pornography is our number one gross national product
- American laws and courts systematic rape and murder of children being allowed, by not putting strong laws in place to protect our children. The average sentence for a sex crime against a child is 3 years!
- Our political leaders don't serve God, but serve money; selling this nation to the highest bidder that they might become rich.
- Those who make our laws and govern this nation, live ungodly lives themselves.
History of Haiti's Poverty
America has a shameful history of oppressing and persecuting personsof color and foreign origin:
- American Indians: hunted to near distinction; still living in desolation and poverty
- Africans: The first African slaves arrives in Virginia in 1619 ( lasted over 400 years)
- Chinese: Helped build the railroad, but mistreated, harassed, hated
- Irish: Hated as immigrants, characterized as drunks and lazy
- Jews: Persecuted since their appearance in the 1800's, forbidden membership in gentile clubs, job
- Catholics: Mistrusted and persecuted because they worshiped differently
If Haiti is cursed because of something her ancestorsdid? What about America’s shame:
- Condoned the practice of slavery
- 15 US president were Freemasons
- Hunted Indians, displace and stole their land
- America dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima
- During WWII, over 120,000 Japanese Americans, had their homes and property taken and were forcible imprisoned in War Relocation Camps
- Banned prayer school prayer, etc.
- History of Racism
- The United States Constitution did not Condemnation Slavery
American is so far away from God; yet thinks sheis a righteous nation. Having In ‘GodWe Trust' is a slogan not a declaration of the lifestyle for this nation. To those who feel Haiti is cursed, I say, "don't worry about Haiti,America is the one who needs to repent or we will become a broken andimpoverished nation as well!"

It’s very worrying that Haiti has such a close proximity to US yet very little wealth/influence is trickling in to that poor country. Maybe they can’t learn, maybe they are cursed, or maybe there is more to it that we don’t know.
America is very busy looking at the welfare of other countries that are thousands and thousands of kilometres away, yet the tiny Haiti just next door is suffering. Maybe it’s America who has cursed Haiti. Perhaps what Haiti can do is to make handsome sacrifices to America gods to cleanse Haiti.
I remember when Pat Robertson made that idiotic statement. It isn't the first stupid thing he has said. For someone who calls himself a religious leader it is inexcusable to make biased statements like this. Sadly, his statements could cause other unthinking people to jump on his bandwagon. You put this hub together in very good fashion. Very good!

Though I'm agnostic, and din't like some of the things you wrote in this hub, most of it was fitting.
Child molesters should be punished severely, and America?
If god was punishing Haiti or any other state for what they did, than America would have to pay for both Japan A-bombings, Korea War, Vietnam War, Irag-Iran War, both afghanistan Wars, the last Iraq war & for all those native Americans & african Slave that they mistreated & used & so much more.
Now that I think of it, America wouldn't be on the map anymore, if we or, god would put out the Karma Scale!

Thanks Ben. I am not a Haitian, but every time I heard or read someone trying to support the lie that Haiti was cursed, I felt so hurt. As though I was on the ground and someone came along and kicked me. What did Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie write...we are the world!
Wow, I'd never heard the argument that Haiti is cursed. Certainly many Americans have done things that do not reflect well on the nation. I only hope that they can be redeemed.
Absolutey 2besure, the Great Spirit recognizes kindness and those with good hearts. I love the people of my country, but there is a lot of hubris and sanctimony, a lot of hate too. Anger towards helping a hurt people is a reflection of some people's need of entitlement and greed. Your passion in this article is guided.

America has stood under a cloud of elitism and entitlement for so long - and christened it holy, few take the time to look and see all the treachery and evil done around the world in its name, in the past and in the current times. America says it is fighting terrorism when to the rest of the world, America is considered a leading terrorist state. 2besure, for your sons to know the Lord while involved in this issue will be of unprecedented benefit to them. It is times just like this where Satan can do serious damage to you. I used Nam only as an example of that which we have become involved in with an everpresent agenda of instituting "Martial Law by Force" wherein we force our positions down someone else's throat. yenajeon, your point is very well taken. Haiti was set up not to succeed when she first won her independence. A new nation needs the support of many to succeed. I have heard so many stores of people being pulled out of the rubble praising God and singing. They are amazing people.
Unchained Grace, I know of some of the terrible things that were done in Viet Nam. My Deceased husband was a vet and told me some of it. It was the nature of the war and the propaganda tried to make them feel that the Vietnamese people were less than human. Sound familiar? America as a nation has a lot to atone fore. Now my son is a soldier and has son has been to both Afghanistan and Iraq. My main desire or him is to know the Lord.
Regardless of his personal agenda or beliefs, he was dead wrong to use his position with the 700 Club to substantiate his unprecedented slander upon Haiti. The US is in no position to point fingers at anyone. Consider the references to the "Great Whore" in Revelation. It is what we have become.
As a Vietnam Vet, I can tell you flat out things were done to innocents in the name of what? Meddling in the business of a country who didn't want us there in the first place. Today, North and South Vietnam is no different that before we got there. I've been back since.
In the beginning, this country was founded upon Biblical principles and now? It's a whole different ballgame with a whole new set of misguided priorities.
We waste billions in the MiddleEast fighting against an inevitable prophesy. Nothing we do over there will change a thing. It's already been prophesied. We've been linked to Israel since it became a nationstate in or around 1945. Since then, we've had their back right down the line regardless. Our own CIA and Israeli Mossad have been running joint operations and parallel programs.
We were once a nation with formidable allies many of which are now dropping like flies. Refer back to the scriptures involving the "Great Whore" in Revelation. Make the comparisons. We do not and have not learned from our own mistakes.

I read an article that initially, Haiti had made a pact with the devil and was heavily into Voodoo, etc. However, Christian Haitians overturned that curse and now meet for prayer at the very place the devil was once worshiped. This happened prior to this horrible earthquake crisis! Throughout all this devastation, they are seeing the love and provision of God coming to them to heal them. All things do work together for good, amen.
We have a multitude of wicked leaders in this nation, and wickedness that's been practiced for generations. However, we also have a remnant of powerful, believing Christians who are on their knees before God. Even Sodom and Gomorrah would have been spared, if only 10 were found as "righteous". When the day comes that so few are left in America, LOOK OUT.
Jesus is coming soon and His righteous judgment will be poured out on the wicked ~ may as many as will receive Him repent NOW. Blessings, sister!
You're absolutely right 2besure. The only reason Haiti has been so 'cursed' is because of other nations. When Haiti became the first black nation of ex-slaves who overthrew their white masters, other nations that still held onto slavery are the ones that have affected Haiti's bad economy. Its sad how many uneducated opinions there are out there.

ngureco, I can not say why Haiti remains in such poverty. I may be a mixture of culture and corrupt government. I could be that here is noting in Haiti that anyone wants such as diamonds, gold or oil. If Haiti had oil, believe me, it would be a different situation. American would be all over it.
