The Gifts of the Spirit
70The gifts of the spirit, are given to Christian believers to be used as tools of ministry, for the purpose of uplifting the body of Christ, ministry and being a witness to non-believers. If you are open and make yourself available to the Holy Spirit, God will use you!
1Co 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
The Gifts of the Spirit are grace gifts give not because of merit, but because of design. Meaning as believers we are called to walk in love, and the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit. Because a believer operates in a gift of the spirit doe not mean he or see is 'deep' or more spiritual than anyone else, but it means that person is yielded to God and willing to be used for His glory.
The Operation of the Gifts
No one owns the Gifts of the Spirit, but can be used in them when
the necessity arises. I have heard some people say, I have all nine
Gifts of the Spirit, but the truth of the matter is, that person may
have at one time or another been used in each of the Nine Gifts of the
Spirit.
1Corinthians12:10-11 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
So those who are used in the Gifts of the Spirit do not control the operation of the gift. They do not decide what gift of the Spirit they will use whenever they want; but rather the Gifts are release as God sees fit.
God will give the proper tool (gift) at the proper time, to perform a certain operation. For example, if someone is sick, God may release the gifts of healing or if someone is discouraged perhaps a word of knowledge or prophecy. The gift should always meet the need.

Faith Works by Love
Corinthians 12:30-31 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 1 Corinthians 12 leads into one of the most important element of walking in the Lord and being used and manifesting gifts of the spirit. If you want to be used in the Gifts of the Spirit, you have to walk in the love of God.
1Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1Corinthians 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
It is human nature to be impressed with someone being used in the Gifts of the Spirit. Especially, for baby Christians or if you have never been used in this manner. But the gifts are not for the glorification of the vessel, but should always point to the Father, that he may be glorified.
This is why the heart or God's vessels need to be pure. It is when His Gifts are being operated in humility, though a yielded vessel, that God is truly pleased... 1Corinthians 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand allmysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I couldremove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
It must be the compassion of Christ that causes us to reach out our hand to minister to another. You have to love people to see the Glory of God manifested. Pride and vain glory, tarnishes God's gifts and though others will be ministered to and receive, healing, and victory, the vessel will have received nothing.
If you desire to be used in the Gifts of the Spirit, God will used you. You do not need to be perfect, but yielded and in love with the Lord. Like Jeremiah, we are imperfect, yet are constantly being perfected by the hand of God. God uses imperfect vessels...

Excellent read. Fantastic use of scripture. You can quickly determine the validity of someone gifts by how someone refers to them. We are vessels, we serve, we do not instigate the gift. I believe many have only experienced a spiritual gift only once simply because they chose to take the credit.

Well my friend it does not matter when you get it as long as you get it. God promises that your later end will be greater than the former. He is yet to do great things through you. Ask Him to use you to edify the body through prophecy. It is in you!
2besure, I was raised within the Church of Christ by my parents. Of Course they would not allow instruments in the Church and I do not remember gifts there. I was saved later in life though the Spirit at a Southern Baptist Church. Now much later in life the Holy Spirit is leading me to New level of Faith. But it has happened within a Body of Believers who embrace the Gifts of The Spirit. You know I did not think tongues were for today. The wonderful thing is in the way you speak about the Gifts are to be used in a way to Glorify God. I cannot speak tongues anytime I want. It comes upon me and it wells up from within my like it comes from my heart. But know sometimes when I am speaking it changes into singing in tongues. One time when it happen was so strange I was at work and I went into the restroom I had been Praising and Thanking the Lord all morning. And then in the restroom all alone I started singing in tongues. It was Amazing I went on for a few minutes until I heard someone outside and it brought me back to thinking someone might hear me so it ended. I am sorry if I have gone on but to me someone now in his fifties He is truly Amazing and there is so much more. Amen

I agree with you Dr. Cherie! Without God we can do nothing. It is quite exciting to see people who felt they had little to offer, minister healing to someone. God is looking for an open vessel.
Lovely hub, 2besure. When teaching healing, I continually remind students that we do not heal anyone; we are simply a willing channel for God's healing light. And yet occasionally, I have heard, "I healed that woman!"
God does not make mistakes, but we do, the human side. It is simply a path of learning we are all on. Just to be human is a beautiful thing, because we, just like the "gifts" all come from the same Spirit.

Wow, 2besure, I was blown away by this hub. People in the Spirit don't walk around in the Spirit, taking from it like magic. It is all in the edifying, and the gifts can change as needed. We shouldn't want people to be impressed by the Spirit working through us, to bring attention to ourselves. I fear anyone who brags about it, is missing their reward.
